Pitching wins games, Unless You Can’t Score

The Rangers have gotten some really good pitching of late. Pitching is something that the Rangers have had problems with in the past. The Rangers have always been known as a team that can crush the ball to all fields and beat you with the long ball. That is not the case in 2013.

As I sit here watching tonight’s inevitable loss, their fourth straight if they can’t come back, I keep thinking about the way the season started. The Rangers did not have problems scoring early on, and I am wondering what has changed. I know Mitch and Kinsler are on the DL, but there is more to it than that. The other guys on the roster are capable of hitting the ball, they are just not doing it.

The Rangers team batting average in the month of June is .219, and their slugging percentage is .387. And they can’t string together any hits. It is frustrating to watch to be sure. Right now even I am having trouble remembering that it is a long season and these kind of streaks happen. But we do need to remember that there are ebbs and flows to a season, and every team goes through a losing streak at some point.

This too shall pass. Although these games are frustrating to watch, the Rangers will start hitting and they will start winning again. The pitching has remained good through this bad spell, and I believe that it will remain good. So we all know that means as soon as the offense comes around, it will be fun times in Arlington again.
