Opening Day for the Texas Rangers and all of the MLB is now just two weeks away. I thought I would take a guess at what the Rangers will be running out there for opening day. Again, I am in no way affiliated with the Texas Rangers nor do I have elaborate inside sources, so this is nothing more than my best guess. It is always fun to guess at this point of spring training!
Starting Pitcher – Yovani Galarrdo. The Texas Rangers have already announced him as their opening day starter, so that is not a shock. Galarrdo will take the hill for game one for the Rangers, followed in the rotation by Derek Holland, Colby Lewis, Ross Detwiler and Nick Martinez. Not exactly the rotation that all Rangers fans were hoping for, but I believe that they can be above average if they all pitch up to their potential.
Infield:
Catcher – Robinson Chirinos
1st Base – Prince Fielder
2nd Base – Rougned Odor
3rd Base – Adrian Beltre
Shortstop – Elvis Andrus
DH: Mitch Moreland
If this group of guys can hit as good as they can field, this could be a pretty dangerous infield for the Texas Rangers. Of course there are some question marks, will Fielder be back to his old self, will Odor have a sophomore slump, will Elvis recover from his dreadful 2014, is Beltre on the decline? These are all questions that will be answered pretty quickly into the season.
Outfield:
Right Field: Shin-Soo Choo
Center Field: Leonys Martin
Left Field: Ryan Rua
I believe that Rua has won the spot, as he has been playing there most of spring training and looking good doing it. I still think Smolinski could take the starters spot, but we will just have to wait and see what happens.
Bullpen:
Bench:
Carlos Coproran
Delino Deshields or Chris Gimenez
So that is my best guess at the Texas Rangers opening day roster. Don’t know if I am right or not, but it was fun trying! Regular season baseball starts in just 14 days!
