Division Series Against the Big Boys

Gallardo_YovaniThe Texas Rangers go to Anaheim starting tonight to play against the red hot Angels. The Angles have established themselves over the last few weeks as the team to beat in the American League West at the least, and maybe in the whole American League right now.

The Angels are 8-2 in their last 10 games, and they have been hitting the cover off of the ball. Tonight Lewis takes the hill to try and slow down the Angels attack, and he has pitched pretty well (1-0, 3.14 ERA in his last two starts) of late. I really hope that Lewis can battle and that the Rangers can get some hits against the Angels Nick Tropeano, a rookie that is being called up for tonight’s start.

With all the trade rumors about the Texas Rangers out there, tomorrow night could very well be Yovani Gallardo‘s last start as a Texas Ranger. He is apparently being highly sought after from several clubs according to sources. If you want to see him in person, you could always book flights to Anaheim through Hipmunk.com to see the Rangers play against Trout and the Angels. With most major airlines available, a destination baseball getaway is a few clicks away, including three Anaheim hotel reservations starting from under $80 that can be made through Hipmunk as well. Gallardo has had a great season for the Texas Rangers, he has a 2.91ERA on the season.

Sunday Nick Martinez makes his second start since returning from AAA ball, and his first one didn’t go so well. I hope that Nick can get it together, I really do. I like Nick and think he can be a great starter, but he has some work to do to prove it.

All in all, I think the Rangers will be happy if they get out of Anaheim with 1 win, but it will be tough the way that the Angels are playing right now. It will also be interesting to see how the crowd reacts to Josh Hamilton tonight.
