Meaningful Baseball On Tap For Texas Rangers With Most Expensive September Series Against Houston Astros

Prior to Opening Day, there weren’t many media pundits that predicted the Texas Rangers would be playing meaningful September baseball, but here they are in the final day of August apart of two meaningful races, both for the AL West Division and AL Wild Card race.

Currently, the Rangers trail the first-place Houston Astros in the West by only three games. Texas is keeping pace with the Astros, going 7-3 in their last 10 games and being winners of four straight. If the Rangers can’t catch the Astros, they’re still in a good position to capture one of the two Wild Card berths. In fact, if the season were to end today, they’d be in the Wild Card Game, albeit on the road as a result of owning the second spot.

Texas trails New York by four games for the top spot, which would give them homefield advantage in the Wild Card Game. Below Texas is an assortment of teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles, in that order. The Twins are their closest competition at the moment, being 1.5 games back, while the division rival Angels are next at 3.5 games back.
