Is it Time to Reboot?

The Rangers have not had a good year. I know they are still in the wildcard hunt, but they are on the verge of losing their thied straight game by a lot, against a team that is supposedly not as good as them. The Rangers could use the remainder of the 2017 season to rebuild their decimated minor league system. Names like Cole Hamels, Jonathan Lucroy, Carlos Gomez and Shin-Soo Choo may bring in a nice haul of prospects for the franchise.

It is hard to watch a team with so much potential squander it night in and night out. Everytime this team gets to the .500 mark, they go on yet another losing streak. If they somehow win a wild card spot, they will not get far. For what it is worth, here is what I would do.

The Rangers have some great pitching prospects in the minors. Yohander Mendez, Connor Sadzeck, Colin Wiles and others. I think the Rangers should give these guys a chance to get their feet wet in the minors as relief pitchers. They can’t do any worse than the current bullpen. The team needs to see what they have.

I would also trade away Lucroy, we all knew he was a rental anyway, and give Brett Nicholas a good look at the major league level, backing up Robinson Chirinos. I would also trade Mike Napoli and try to get a good haul in return. I think Joey Gallo can do a fine job at first.

Next I would DFA Tyson Ross and chalk him ip to a failed experiment. He has shown no consistancy whatsoever. He will walk and sign with another team. I would put either Bibens-Dirkx in his spot, and take a good long look at him as well.

So, in closing, I would not be for a total reboot, but I do think the Rangers need to think about the next few seasons, cause this one is not looking promising so far. I believe that this team is a few relief pitchers away from reaching it’s full potential.
