The Rangers improved their bull pen this weekend, there is no other way to look at it. If you combine their stats, Uehara and Adams have pitched 95 innings and allowed 51 hits with 111 strikeouts and 17 walks. The Rangers pen was 11th in the AL with a 4.42 ERA. Adams and Uehara have a combined 1.42 ERA. The Rangers of course traded Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter for Uehara, and then they traded prospects Robbie Erlin, the 4th ranked prospect in the organization, and was 8-4 with a 3.34 ERA in 19 starts and one relief appearance. Joe Wieland was 10-3 with a 1.80 ERA in 20 starts and one relief appearance in the Minors, including 4-0 with a 1.23 ERA in seven starts at Double A Frisco. He threw a no-hitter on Friday night against San Antonio. So, yes, the Rangers did give up a lot to get Adams, but in the long run with all the talant that the Rangers have in the minors, I think this was a better deal than the one that the Padres wanted for Heath Bell. Starting tomorrow, I have much more confidence in the Rangers pen than I did on Friday. Now lets see if C.J. can get it straightened out and if the rest of the starters can keep it going!!
