Arlington, TX: The Texas Rangers took on the second place Seattle Mariners tonight on Saturday Night Baseball on FOX.
After a 1-2-3 seven pitch top of the first, the Rangers pushed across 3 runs on 3 hits and made Brian Woo throw 25 pitches.
The Rangers tacked on 2 more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. They collected 6 hits off Woo in those 2 frames.
The offense looked great from top to bottom tonight, as the team collected 12 hits on the night. Every started except for Brandon Nimmo collected at least one hit, with Wyatt Langford and Joc Pederson both collecting 3.
Langford had a tough at bat in the second inning where he fouled two balls off his shin, in basically the same spot. He was pulled from the game in the 6th inning.
He had x-rays taken and no damage was found, he expects to be good to play tomorrow.
“Wyatt Langford set the tone tonight” Skip Schumaker said after the game. “Langford had 3 hits, couple of doubles, especially after smashing a couple balls off his foot.”
Eovaldi finished his night throwing 89 pitches through 7 innings, giving up 1 run on three hits and striking out 8 Mariners.
“I thought my splitter was there from the beginning of the game. I feel like that’s a good recipe for me” Eovaldi said to the media after the win. “I felt like I was searching for the curve ball early in the game, but in the sixth and seventh inning I was able to find it”
The Rangers tacked on two more in the bottom of the 7th after the Mariners issued a couple of walks to Evan Carter and Nicky Lopez, and Alejandro Osuna drove them in with a double.
Robbie Ahlstrom and Ben Peoples pitched the 8th and 9th as kept the Mariners off the board as the Rangers won 7-1, extending their division lead another game over Seattle.
The offense was impressive against a good started in Bryan Woo, and the top of the order was very impressive tonight. The Rangers seem to be heating up at the right time.
With Corey Seager and Josh Jung both on the injured list, the Rangers need that next man up mentality, and they had it tonight as they had productive at bats up and down the lineup.
The Rangers look to take the series tomorrow in the afternoon game.
