Prince Fielder was a great baseball player, but he was an even better person. His eleven year big league career came to an end yesterday due to injury.

“I want to thank my teammates, all the coaches. … I’m going to miss being around the guys,” Fielder said according to texasrangers.com. “It has been a lot of fun. I have been in a big league club [a long time], and not being able to play is tough. I’m happy to have enjoyed my career playing with these guys. They are awesome.”

Fielder played 3 injury plagued seasons with the Rangers.

I was against the signing of Prince Fielder when the Rangers traded for him. I am not sure still that it was a good trade, but since I have got to see Prince Fielder on a day to day basis, I am glad he was a Ranger. His personality and love for the game showed through every day. He is a class act and he will be missed by his teammates, former teammates and the rest of the league.

I can’t imagine what it is like to have something you love and have been doing your whole life just taken away from you. I don’t know how I would react. Watching yesterday, Prince did a good job. He stays classy and he still has a passion for baseball. He will always be welcome in the Rangers clubhouse. He will probably always be welcome in almost any clubhouse.

Sad times or baseball, but he made the right decision. Family and health always have to come before anything else. Prince made that decision. And his quality of life will be better because of it. The Rangers will be better for knowing him. We will miss him as a player. Thank you Prince for your time here in Arlington.
