News and Notes for Jan. 14, 2011

First of all, we would like to thank all of you for checking out the site. We have been getting some hits and we am very thankful for that. We  look forward to entertaining and informing you about the Texas Rangers. Thank you again.

Jim Thome

Next, I would like to say that we here at TRR were right about Jim Thome. He is, as of today, a Minnesota Twin again. This is really no surprise, seeing that he said himself that he wanted to go back to the Twins and I do not think that he wanted to be an every 5th day player like he may have wound up with the Rangers. He is a good guy and might have been a good fit personality wise, but it did not happen so I guess we will move on.

John Rhadigan

The rumor going around on Twitter and word of mouth that we are hearing here at TRR is that the Rangers are considering making JohnRhadigan (Fox Sports Southwest anchor) the next play by play man for the television broadcasts, with Tom Grieve. Rhadigan is knowledgeable and smart, and I think he may do a good job. I am sure they are still looking outside the Ranger family, but replacing Josh with Rhadigan may not be a bad thing. I think that I could live with that, now that we all get to hear Josh Lewin again (if you live near the metroplex or have the Internet) with his new show on The Fan radio in Dallas. I will keep you posted if I hear anything else on the Rhadigan situation.

Manny Rameriez

So, there  appear to be 5 teams interested in Manny Ramirez, and the Texas Rangers are one of them. So are the Angels, Rays, and a few others. I am a little confused again, as I was with Thome, on why the Rangers would want Manny. Ramirez, unlike Thome, is not know as a joy to be around, he is more known as a scourge in the clubhouse. I understand that he is a great clutch hitter, and I understand that he will put people in the seats, but I am not sure he is the answer for the Rangers. My opinion is that the Rangers are most likely trying to drive up the price in case the Angels are close to a deal with him, but I could be wrong. Again, I will keep you posted if I hear anything else on the Manny situation.

Clay Rapada

The Rangers have released Clay Rapada. I am not that surprised, but I am a little disappointed. Rapada is a left hander, and the Rangers have a lot of talented lefty’s in the organization right now, and appear to feel like they could move on without him. He will be picked up pretty fast, I think. He did a good job for the Rangers.

I will write more when news becomes available on these and many other topics. check back often and tell your friends to do the same.
