Darvish and Fielder, Fielder and Darvish

So, if you are a Rangers fan these are two names you have heard a whole lot about lately. There are, as of the time I am writing this article, around 36 hours left until the deadline to get a deal done with Darvish. My opinion, the Rangers will get the deal done with Darvish and he will be a Ranger for the next 5 years or so. I think the Rangers and Jon Daniels are smart enough to get the deal done. He will not be the no. 1 starter going into the 2012 season, the Rangers have already said that Colby Lewis is going to be the opening day starter for the Rangers in 2012. Good for Colby. He has been a consistent pitcher for this team over the last 2 seasons. I now think the Rangers rotation will go something like this: 1. Colby Lewis   2. Derek Holland   3. Yu Darvish   4. Matt Harrison   5. Neftali Feliz.  That is a pure guess on my part, but that is how I see it with around a month to go before pitchers and catchers report.

So where does that leave the Rangers on the whole Prince Fielder/Josh Hamilton thing? Some say the Rangers should avoid any Scott Boras client, some say the Rangers should sign Prince even if it means losing Josh. I land somewhere in the middle. I think the Rangers should give Fielder a serious look, but I think they should also remember that Josh is just 1 season separated from his MVP year, and he is young enough that he still has the potential to put up another few MVP type years. According to what I have read and heard on the Internet,  Fielder really wants to be a Texas Ranger, and he is holding out to see what happens with the Yu Darvish thing. Also, I am not sure that I am ready to give up on the whole Mitch Moreland at first base thing quite yet.

So, what does all this mean for Rangers fans? It means, we still have around 36 hours to go until any of this gets resolved. Don’t be surprised if you see Darvish and Fielder signed within 24 hours of eachother. JD is just sneaky like that!
