Dr. Josh and Mr. Hamilton

We all know some of the offensive struggles that Josh has gone through during this season, as they have been well documented here and may other places. Josh got off to a blistering pace in April and May, looking like a sure thing to be a triple crown winner. He had a batting average of .370 in those two months, hitting 21 homeruns with 57 RBIs and striking out just 39 times. He was the best player in all of baseball, and Dr. Josh was putting on a clinic for the rest of baseball to learn from. We as Rangers fans had the feeling that this season was going to be the most magical of all magic seasons, and the last two were pretty magical! Nothing could go wrong for Dr. Josh and the Rangers as a whole. Great hitting, great starting pitching, and the Angels were bad.

But then, something happened to Dr. Josh. He decided to drink that potion that turned him into Mr. Hamilton. Now, Mr. Hamilton was absolutely nothing like Dr. Josh. For the months of June and July, Mr. Hamilton took over. He had a batting average of .200 while hitting just 8 homeruns with just 27 RBIs and striking out an astounding 56 times. He looked completely lost at the plate, and worse than that he looked like he was not bothered by the fact that he was lost, giving away at bats. The Rangers pitching staff also seemed to follow Mr. Hamilton to the bad performance. He seemed to be dragging the whole team down with him. We were all worried because, as this was happening, the Angels were playing really good and the A’s were starting to catch up. We all started wondering if this was ever gone to end. Then, August rolled around.

Now, Mr. Hamilton seems to be letting the potion run out and is turning back into Dr. Josh. His plate discipline seems to be back, his power seems to be back, and Dr. Josh already has as many RBIs in August as he had for the whole month of July, and it is only the 9th! Yep, Dr. Josh may be coming back at just the right time. If the Rangers can get on a hot streak for the rest of the season, post season included, we may see Dr. Josh finally raise the trophy that all of us long to see him raise. The World Series Trophy! I can live with two months of Mr. Hamilton as long as, when it counts, Dr. Josh takes over and takes all of us on the ride of a lifetime!
