Trade Talk for Saturday

20130727-090002.jpg The rumors are flying about the Texas Rangers acquiring a hitter. Everything from Hunter Pence to Giancarlo Stanton (which both appear unlikely) to ex-Rangers Marlin Byrd and yes, they have had internal discussions about bringing back Michael Young according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

But lets look at the true possibilities, in the order I believe the Rangers are trying to acquire them:

1. Alex Rios. In my opinion and what I have read, the Rangers are trying hard to get a deal done with the White Sox for Rios. Rios is a guy that the organization really believes can help them down the stretch and he is under team control after this season as well. Rios is a plus outfielder with a very consistent bat, and he would be an upgrade to David Murphy (sorry Murph, love ya but you are having a really bad season) or help if and when Nelly gets suspended.

2. Kendrys Morales. Morales was an Angel forever, and then a Mariner, so why not go to his third AL West team right? Again, he would help this club down the stretch run.

3. Chris Denorfia. Chris is a Padre outfielder that is having a pretty good season for a pretty bad team. His numbers aren’t the best at .266/.321.384, but the Rangers must see something they like in him.

4. Manny Ramirez. Manny is not looking like Manny, he is looking like a 41 year old trying to get back into the game. I am starting to think he does not make this club. I guess we shall see as the season goes on.

With the looming suspension of Nelson Cruz and the possible retirement of Lance Berkman, the Rangers need to get at least one hitter before Wesnesday. It should be a fun next few days. Enjoy the trade circus!
