The Depleted Texas Rangers

20140422-142823.jpgThe 2014 Texas Rangers began the year by finding out that their number two starter Derek Holland would need knee surgery, and would miss roughly half the season. Things have pretty much gone down hill since then. The 2014 Texas Rangers are without their starting second baseman Jurickson Profar, their starting catcher Geovany Soto, starting pitcher Matt Harrison, relief pitcher Neftali Feliz, starting third baseman Adrian Beltre and now starting left fielder Shin-Soo Choo will miss at least two games if not more. Yet, somehow, this team has won six of it’s last seven games.

How a team can have so many injuries is beyond me, with all the training and therapy and off-season workout programs they are on, but the fact is the Texas Rangers have been hit as hard as anyone in 2014 with the injury bug. The only positive to take from this so far is watching guys like Kevin Kouzmanoff, Josh Wilson, Donnie Murphy and Robinson Chirinos perform at a very high level in replacement of the injuries players.

If they can win the series against the Oakland Athletics, then they will be right where they need to be with all of the missing players. As is, the Texas Rangers have the second best record in the Amoerican League. I really look forward to seeing what this team can do when they have everyone back in the line up.
