Who is Miles Mikolas?

Miles_Mikolas_v4e7hola_1vzeywarThe starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers tonight is a man by the name of Mile Mikolas. So who exactly is Miles Mikolas and where did he come from? Glad you asked.

Miles Mikolas was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2009 in the seventh round. He has appeared in a total of 27 games for the Padres, having an ERA of 3.44 in those games. Tonight will be his first ever start at the major league level.

So far in AAA ball Miles was 5-1 with a 3.22 ERA, he had 38 strikeouts to just 3 walks. Miles, according to wikipedia, earned the nickname “Lizard King” when, on a bet, he ate a lizard in the bullpen during a 2011 Arizona Fall League game. Just in case you wanted to know that fun fact about Mikolas.

So what should Texas Rangers fans expect from Miles tonight? I expect him to be nervous, but I expect him to also be better than the experience that Texas Rangers fans went through the last two nights. I think he will give up 5 runs or less, strike out 3-5, and walk less than 3. And if he can do that, I think that the Texas Rangers have a good chance to give Miles Mikolas his first major league win as a starter.

So sit back and enjoy just another young piece that the Texas Ranger have added to an already young 2014 team, and Lets go Rangers!
