1st Base/DH

As everyone already knows, but I am going to write about it anyway, the job at 1st base is Mitch Moreland’s to lose. He will have to really step it down during Spring Training if he wants the job to go to someone else on the team. Mitch was really good during the season playing there, and he was great in the post season. Mitch hit .255, 9 home runs and 25 RBI in 47 games for Texas. A pretty good short sample. If we project (and we shall project) Mitch would have hit (based on those numbers) about 82 RBI, around 27 home runs and would have batted around .265 or .270. I think he is going to win the job at 1st because I do not think he was a fluke. The post season really changed my mind on Moreland. He hit .348 in the post season, including .389 against the Yankees in the ALCS and an incredible .462 in the World Series. I think Mitch is the real deal, and I hope that I am right. Well, mostly. I am still a big fan of Chris Davis, or Crush as his nickname goes, but I think that he has missed his oportunity to be the Rangers everday 1st baseman. Crush may be the best defensive first baseman we have seen around these parts in a very long time, and that includes Mark Texeria. But I hear through the grapevine that Crush will get some work at 3rd to see if he can get some playing time there. So, after that, you still have Mike Napoli and Michael Young who will be getting time there during spring training and during the season. Also, Mike and Mike and probably David Murphy will get some time at the DH spot.  I see it breaking down like this barring injuries or non effective play:

Mitch Moreland

Michael Young

Mike Napoli

Chris Davis

And at DH:

 Michael Young

Mike Napoli (when Young is in the field)

David Murphy when needed.

That is what I think. Let me know what you think and check back often for more news and annalysis.
