The Texas Rangers Draft Dillon Tate

Dillon Tate Texas RangersThe Texas Rangers had the fourth pick in the 2015 draft and they have selected right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate from UC-Santa Barbara. Tate was also the closer for Team USA this last year. I thought I would take a moment to look at Dillon Tate and see what his skill sets are and how he will project.

Dillon Tate was born in 1994, he is 6-2, 185 lbs, his former college coach describes him this way:

“Dillon is a wonderful kid. From a baseball standpoint, he has come from almost nothing into one of the top pitchers in the country. His work habits have allowed him to blossom into a premier right-hander, and the fact that he’s attained this success is not a surprise whatsoever.” mlb.com

He has a fastball that consistently hits 93-95, and he has topped out at around 98, his grades according to the mlb.com scouting page has him at a well above average fastball, an above average slider, an average change up and a below average curveball, his control is average and overall he is listed as above average.

Dillon Tate is a good pickup for the Texas Rangers, and I am glad that he was there at number four for the Texas Rangers. Hopefully he works his way through the minors quickly and makes an impact in Arlington!
