The Bullpen as of Now Part 2 – The Maybe Guys

The Rangers have some good guys to choose from the guys left, and some of them will not make it to Arlington. These are the guys that I think have a good chance of making it, but I am not as confident as I was in the first list.

The Maybe Guys:

1. Mark Lowe – Lowe was the guy that almost everyone forgot that came in the Cliff Lee trade. Kind of like the guy everyone forgot in the Carlos Lee trade whose name was Nelson Cruz. The Rangers were really happy to get him in that trade, even though he was injured because of the potential that he has. Mark has not had a great spring, sporting an ERA of 5.40 while walking 2. I think that Mark is pretty safe because the Rangers brought him in expecting big things during the regular season, I do not think they are too worried about spring results unless they get way worse.

2. Pedro Strope – I am surprised that I am even going there. I was a nervous wreck every time that the Rangers brought in Strope last season becuase he did not pitch well. He is kind of the Chris Davis of pitchers, in the fact that he pitches great in AAA ball and falls apart at the major league level. But he is having a great spring. He has yet to give up a run. In 5 innings, he has struck out 5 and not walked anyone. I think he is at least giving the Rangers something to consider when it comes to putting him on the team.

3. Michael Kirkman –  The Rangers may want to streach him out in AAA ball if he does not make the rotation, bit I think that he may wind up in the bullpen. He was really good out of the pen last season, and I could see the Rangers using him there again in 2011. Kirkman is a left hander, and that is always an advantage for bullpen. Look for the Rangers to make a decision on him before spring training is over.

4. Omar Beltre – The Rangers are pretty high on Beltre, but he has not gotten a whole lot of innings yet, and he is probably not going to make it out of spring training. But he could, he is a great talent and if he is not part of the team out of spring training, he may be pretty soon into the season.

It will be really interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks! Stay tuned for more Ranger news!!
