Rangers Consider a Reunion with Derek Holland

According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Texas Rangers and free agent Derek Holland are considering a reunion. His time in Texas did not end well after a few good years. He has bounced around the past few seasons. He was said earlier to want to return to the National League, but the Rangers may be able to sway him.

Derek Holland was a great pitcher for a few years for the Rangers, but he never lived up to the contract they gave him after 2011. He had a career 4.35 ERA with the Rangers, but in 2010 and 2011 he had respective ERA’s of 4.08 and 3.95. He had one very bad year with the White Sox, but last season with the Giants he had a 3.57 ERA in 30 starts and a few relief appearances. Derek was always a fan favorite, and I am sure that the metroplex would welcome him back with open arms.

The Rangers would probably have to pay Derek Holland somewhere around the $7mm a year mark or so. Not bad for 32 year old veteran pitcher. The Rangers have not publicly commented on this, but just to know that it may be a consideration is kind of fun to think about. Will they sign him? I don’t know. Would it be a good move? Maybe. Would the fans like it? Absolutely. We will have to wait and see if anything comes out of the rumor or if it dies.
