So, Who Will Play Third Base for the Texas Rangers?

Adrian Beltre retired. That left Jurickson Profar to play third, right? The Texas Rangers traded Jurickson Profar to the Oakland Athletics. That left Joey Gallo to play third base, right? The Rangers have said they will not move Gallo to third. Right now at Texasrangers.com, the depth chart shows Patrick Wisdom as the starter. Patrick Wisdom has played a grand total of 13 games at third base in his 32 games in the majors, all in 2018. The Rangers are going to one of the greatest third basemen of all time to a guy who has 13 games at third under his belt.

At AAA ball Wisdom has 271 games at third under his belt. He has a fielding percentage of .945, and a batting line of .256/.327/.466 51 home-runs. Everyone has to start somewhere, and the sample is not big enough to say if Wisdom is ready or not.

It is now only 48 days until pitchers and catchers report, and the Rangers still have a lot of work to do to get the team ready. The pitching staff if serviceable at best, the infield is decent, so is the outfield. The hitting may or may not be good, it depends on what the new hitting coach can do. I do not feel confident going from Adrian Beltre to Patrick Wisdom. Then again, I didn’t really think the Rangers would be a contender in 2019. Why not give the guy a shot and see what you have in him.
