Week in Review: The Majors

I am starting a new series on the site called week in review. We do it on the podcast, but I wanted to hit the five biggest things that happened to the Rangers in the past seven days. Hope you enjoy.

Number 5

Rangers: <a rel=Brock Holt throws picture-perfect 31 mph eephus for strike” width=”365″ height=”219″/>

Brock Holt came in to pitch on Saturday, and he didn’t disappoint. His 31 mph pitch was pretty funny to watch. The funnier thing however is that he pitched a clean inning. The Rangers were losing 12-3 to Oakland so the move made sense. My favorite part might have been when he asked the umpire if he wanted to check him for sticky stuff.

Number 4

Adolis Garcia is heating up again. It seems every time the Rangers score he is somewhere in the middle of it. Garcia will be wronged if he doesn’t win rookie of the year in my opinion. He is having the best campaign of any American League rookie by far. Garcia is still the most enjoyable thing to watch about the 2021 Rangers. I think the Rangers are really liking him in right.

Number 3

John King threw a 20 pitch simulated game in Oakland and is expected to start a rehab assignment soon. King was having a good season before the injury and was nearly traded to the Yankees with Joey Gallo at the end of July.

Dane Dunning went on the injured list this week, but he is only expected to miss one start. Dunning has had a pretty decent season, but the Rangers want to be careful with him and monitor his innings to make sure he is healthy for the long haul.

Number 2

Texas Rangers: 3 takeaways from <a rel=Spencer Howard's debut” width=”381″ height=”253″/>

Newly acquired pitcher Spencer Howard had a decent debut. He was perfect through two innings but fell into some trouble in the third. Errors led to his demise in the inning. Howard was only slated to pitch a maximum of 3 innings regardless. Taylor Hearn replaced him and also had trouble overcoming some defensive issues behind him. Overall a good debut for Howard.

Number 1

Jordan Lyles and Mike Foltynewicz are still in the rotation for the Rangers. You may ask why, but I have your answer. The Rangers need innings to preserve the young arms on the squad. Simple as that. They are going to lose over 100 games. If Lyles and Folty can give you six innings a start, it saves the bullpen and the and gives guys like Cole Winn, Jake Latz and others more time to develop. We all know they are going to be bad. They are prone to the long ball. It’s not like the Rangers are in a pennant race. Let them eat innings like Lyles tried to do Sunday. If they stop eating innings consistently, then you’ll have to think about what to do with them. For now, however, let them struggle and get through the fifth. Hopefully.

Hopefully you will enjoy these. Let me k ow I’m the comments below, on Facebook or Twitter. And be sure to support the blog and podcast on Patreon, Buy Me A Coffee and shop at Waltons and use the code Rangers15 to save 15% off your order!
