How to Lose Fans and Alienate People

MLB and the MLBPA are “hard at work” trying to alienate their fan base. Spring training for MLB players is all but postponed and the season is now in jeopardy. Why? Because they won’t get in a room and hash out a deal. Why is it so hard. All I’ve seen from the outside looking in is both sides saying the other side is not willing to deal. These statements come after 10 minute meetings six weeks after the lockout began.

The MLB and the owners are to blame. The MLBPA and the players are to blame. No one has their hands clean, and no one looks like the good guys here. Like everyone else, I want baseball to be played. I love the sport, but I guarantee casual fans will not tune back in if you let them go elsewhere for their sports entertainment.

The Rangers are building something special right now. They are going to be a force soon. If the lockout progresses the way it’s headed now, nobody will care who is good and who is not, because no one will be watching baseball. They will watch football, basketball, hockey, soccer, curling, anything that actually cares about its fan base.

MLB and MLBPA are so clueless to the fact that the fan base is what keeps their money rolling in. They are both spitting in the face of fans with this stupid selfish lockout. They are “biting the had that feeds them”, so to speak.

It can be fixed, but it must be fixed soon. Players without a full spring will get injured. Guys will not get jobs because of it. Players will be left without a team. Teams will have to call up prospects early because of injury, which could hinder their growth. It will hurt everyone from the owner down to the fan. And it appears to only be getting worse.

I have little to no faith that a deal will be done in time for spring training, and my faith is waning on the season beginning on time. I love this sport and I will continue to watch, but will the casual baseball fan watch? Will they even care about baseball anymore. History says no. 1994 says no.

I guess baseball is really Americas pastime. Just like our political system, it’s filled with selfish self serving people who only want what is best for their pocketbook and don’t care about anyone else. Good luck baseball recovering financially from your debacle that is the MLB lockout. You’re going to need it.
