Minor League Week in Review 1

All of the Texas Rangers minor league affiliates began play this past week. Here at the Ranger Report we strive to bring you the best coveage of those teams and keep you up to date on the next wave of Texas Rangers. Let’s take a look at the first few games.

Down East Wood Ducks

The DEWD’s opened the season against the Carolina Reapers, being outscored 25-14. With only three games in the books there is not a whole lot to look at from Down East, but here are a few standouts from the weekend:

Larson Kindreich struck out 5 batters in two innings of work and did not give up any runs.

Josh Stephan pitched four innings and struck out 7 while giving up 2 earned runs.

Yosy Galan is batting .375/.444/.875 with a home run and two RBI in his first action.

More to come in the future on Down East.

Hickory Crawdads

The Dad’s began the season in Winston-Salem and took 2 out of 3 from the Dash.

Mason Englert had a tough but not terrible first outing giving up 4 earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched. He struck out two while walking one in his High A debut.

Owen White pitched 3 innings and gave up a couple runs, striking out 3 and not walking anyone.

Tekoah Roby threw 3.1 innings and gave up just one run while striking out four. He did not walk anyone.

Cristian Inoa is batting .462/.500/.846 with a homer and 7 RBI through three games.

Evan Carter is hitting .308/.438/.538 with both a double and a triple so far in the young season.

Aaron Zavala has yet to get a hit but he has walked seven times so far. He has an OPB of .467.

Frisco RoughRiders

The Riders began with three against the Arkansas Travelers. They took two out of the three. There were some guys pitching this weekend that you may have heard of:

Jack Leiter went three innings in his professional debut. He fanned 7 while walking 2, limiting the damage to just one run. Overall he looked sharp in his first game in pro ball.

Opening day starter Cody Bradford went 4.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits and striking out 3.

Cole Ragans also had a good start going 3.1 innings, fanning 7 and not giving up a run.

Highly touted prospect Ezequiel Duran has gotten off to a hot start as well, batting .346/.417/.545.

Blaine Crim has also been pretty good batting .300. He is getting to play everyday at first base and should be a force in AA ball this season.

Round Rock Express

The Express began at home and had a good series overall. They have a better team than they had in 2021. Here are some standouts:

Jake Latz has an ERA of 3.00 with 9 strikeouts through 9 innings pitched.

Cole Winn has given up one run in his only start so far having a sub 2.50 ERA.

Leody Taveras has started hot at the plate batting .538/.556/.808 with a homer and a walk.

Bubba Thompson has also began the season well. His .407 batting average is only second to Taveras.

Sam Huff has played in all six games so far and is batting .304.

This Round Rock team should be fun to keep up with in 2022.
