Minor League Week in Review: Two Weeks in May

Here at the Ranger Report we like to keep you all updated on how the Texas Rangers minor league system is going. The future of the Texas Rangers sits down there as we speak.

I enjoy watching these games when I can and I hope you all enjoy reading about them on Mondays.

Down East Wood Ducks: 14-19

In the Carolina North League the Wood Ducks sit in 5th place right now. They are 4-6 in their last 10 games. It has not all been bad for the Wood Ducks, and there are definitely players to watch at this level.

On the pitching side, relieve Theo McDowell has posted an ERA of 3.95 with 18 strike outs and 9 walks in 13.2 innings pitched. He has given up about a run every 1.2 innings or so.

Anthony Hoopii-Tuinetoa (say that name 5 times fast) has struck out 25 in 12.1 innings while posting an ERA of 1.46.

On the starter side of things Larson Kindreich has an ERA of 2.52 with 38 k’s in 25 innings pitched. Winston Santos is 1-0 with a 3.76 ERA.

Now on the hitting side of things. Alejandro Osuna (.333/.409/.510) has had a great first six weeks of the season. The left fielder has 4 homers and 13 RBI

Yosy Galan (.294/.381/.518) has 5 homers and 16 RBI.

Hickory Crawdads: 17-15

The Crawdads are in third place in the South Atlantic League South Division. They have a record of 6-4 in their last 10 games.

On the pitching side Mason Englert (who has been on the Ranger Report Podcast by the way) 2-1 with a 3.23 ERA. He has 32 strikeouts in 30.2 innings pitched.

Tekoah Roby and Ricky Vanasco have been struggling a bit, with ERA’s above 6.50 for both starters. Owen White is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA

In the pen with 12 appearances, Marc Church has an ERA of 2.08 with 32 k’s in 17.1 innings pitched.

Joe Corbett is posting a 2.12 ERA and Josh Smith (the pitcher, not the AAA hitter) has a 1.17 ERA in 4 innings pitched.

Frisco RoughRiders: 19-14

The RoughRiders are in first place in the Texas League South. One game ahead of Midland.

Now on the pitching side of things starters Cole Ragans (3-1, 2.79 ERA) Jack Leiter (1-3, 4.43 ERA) and Cody Bradford (3-2, 9.00 ERA) are the three biggest named pitching prospects in Frisco.

Leiter struggled his last outing, and Bradford had one bad outing. Also keep an eye on Zak Kent (0-1, 5.63 ERA) and Justin Slayton (0-1, 4.67 ERA).

In the bullpen the Viper, Chase Lee still have not given up any runs in 13.1 innings pitched. Grant Anderson has a 1.45 ERA and Nick Star is posting a 1.98 ERA.

Round Rock Express: 21-15

The Express sit in second place in the Pacific Coast League East, one game behind the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

On the pitching side starters Cole Winn (2-0, 6.03 ERA), Jake Latz (3-4, 5.28 ERA) and A.J. Alexy (0-1, 7.16 ERA) have not been fantastic but the Express are scoring a lot of runs behind them.

Relievers Hever Bueno (2.95 ERA), Ryder Ryan (2.50 ERA), Jesus Tinoco (2.93 ERA) and Nick Snyder (0.00 ERA) have been doing a great job.

On the offensive side Leody Tavares is still cleaning it up with a slash line of .339/.367/.579 with 5 homers and 18 RBI. Bubba Thompson and Steele Walker are also hitting over .300 at the moment. Willie Calhoun is batting .212 right now but is playing some pretty good defense.

There is your look at the minor leagues for the second week in May!
