Express Opens Series Against the Space Cowboys

Round Rock, TX – The Round Rock Express opened their series against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Tuesday night. Spencer Howard faced off against the Astros AAA affiliate.

The game started with a solo shot from JJ Matijevic, followed by a double off the bat of Corey Julks and a single from Jake Meyers.

The hits kept coming as the Space Cowboys scored 6 runs and batted around in the first inning. The Express answered with one in the bottom of the first.

Spencer Howard settled down nicely after that, finishing the night with 6 runs on 5 hits, all in the first inning, on 80 pitches. He struck out 5 and walked 1.

In the bottom of the 5th the Express tacked on another run to make the game 6-2. They added a homer in the sixth off the bat of Elier Hernandez to close the deficit to 3.

The bullpen did a great job including the rehabbing Jonathan Hernandez, who pitched one inning and walked one but allowing no runs. Over all the pen no hit the Space Cowboys for the remainder of the game.

In the end it would not be enough as the Express (Austin Senators) dropped the first game in the series 6-3 to the Space Cowboys. Round Rock only had 5 hits on the night.

Tomorrow AJ Alexy takes the hill for the Express to try and get the team back on the winnings track. Personally I have to thank all of the staff at Round Rock for making my first day here covering the team a real treat. Hope you all enjoy the extra AAA coverage this week as I am here until Friday.
