The Texas Rangers Forty Man Roster

The Texas Rangers filled their 40 man roster on Tuesday. After a few trades and DFA’s, they made their decisions.

Who is off the forty man?

Andy Ibanez, Nick Solak, Meibrys Viloria, Tyson Miller, Kolby Allard and Dennis Santana are no longer with the Rangers. They were either traded or waived and picked up by another team.

That left the forty man with some room for additions. All of these players were contributors at some point in 2022 for the Texas Rangers.

Who is now on the forty man?

The Rangers acquired Jake Odorizzi from the Braves, bringing their 40 man total to 34 with all the trades and DFA’s the team did. They had to add some prospects to keep them from being taken in the Rule 5 draft.

With the six remaining spots the Rangers chose to protect these players: Luis Angel Acuna, Cole Winn, Zak Kent, Dustin Harris, Owen White and Jonathan Ornelas.

None of these players are a surprise really. They all are upper level players who had really nice seasons in the minors.

Who is NOT on the forty man?

Unfortunately, the Rangers could not add everyone they wanted to the forty man. On the pitching side there is a large chance that both Mason Englert and Cody Bradford will be selected. Both deserved to be on the 40 man, but there are only so many slots.

Another one that could be snatched up is Blain Crim. While he was great at the plate the past few seasons, he only plays first base. It would be hard for a team to keep him on the roster all season.

Avery Weems is another player that could be selected. According to sources, the team had a tough time leaving some of these players off the forty man.

Free Agency?

More player movement is to come. Now the Rangers will have to make more decisions, but the roster is no where close to where it will be for the start of 2023.

The Rangers have more trades to make. They also have more guys to cut, just not now.

According to everything I have seen, they will be big players in the trade and free agent market this off-season. But for now, the roster is set. Big emphasis on for now.
