Moves, News, and Roy Oswalt

There is so much Rangers stuff to talk about I feel like I could write a book for you. But I won’t. Unless you want to pay me to write a book for you. And you don’t. I am pretty sure on that last one.

Moves:

1. Chad Bell and Joseph Ortiz (both left handed pitchers) have been called up to Round Rock. Bell has a record of 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA in just 13 games, only seven of them are starts. He has struck out 40 while walking 13 in 50 2/3 innings. Ortiz has a record of 1-2 with a 2.35 ERA in 27 games, striking out 29 and walking just 6 in 30 2/3 innings (according to TR Sullivan).

2. Neil Ramirez, big pitching prospect for the Rangers who has been struggling at Round Rock, has been sent down to Frisco. He was 6-8 with a 7.66 ERA in 15 starts at the AAA level. Hopefully he can sort it out down in Frisco and get back to pitching well.

3. The Rangers have designated for assignment (that means cut in baseball terms for all of you wondering) Mark Hamburger who did alright for the Rangers last season but was just not showing the Rangers anything good this season. He gave up 33 earned runs in just 45 innings, and had an ERA of 6.55. No more Hamburger jokes.

4. The Rangers have put Mitch Moreland on the 15 day DL, but it looks like he will be out 4 to 6 weeks with his hamstring strain.

News:

1. Dave Barnett – The Rangers have no new news on Barnett’s condition that caused him to speak nonsense at the game Monday night in San Diago. Barnett will have the weekend off and we can all hope that they can figure out what caused this so Dave can get back to work.

2. There is a movie being made about he life of Josh Hamilton. Hamilton and his wife will be co-producers, according to deadspin.com. I have to say that I am not so sure about a movie about the life of Hamilton at this point. If there is going to be a movie about Hamilton, lets let the rest of his career play out before this. Just my opinion. I may be wrong and the movie may be great, but I have to say that I am not excited about this one.

Roy Oswalt –

Oswalt is set to make his Rangers debut tonight. I know I am excited to see what he  can do against a team that he is used to pitching against. I think it was a great move to have Oswalt start in an interleague game, since he has spent his whole career in the national league. I do not know at this point what to expect from Oswalt, but here is what I think we will get from him: 5.2 innings pitched, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts, 3 earned runs and he will get the win. That is the line that I would not be surprised to see at all. I hope he gives us 6 or more innings, but in his first start back, I do not expect Wash to push him to hard. Enjoy the game tonight everyone!
