Sunday is Game Day

Brandon Webb
Brandon Webb finally got back on the mound for a pitching session on Sunday and called the session a “breakthrough”. Webb says he is not sure if he will be ready for opening day, but he says he can now see the finish line for returning back to pitching. The Rangers have been extra careful with Webb so far this spring training and I do not expect that to change any time soon. The Rangers are counting of Webb being back to 100% when he finally takes the mound in a regular season game later this year. If Webb is at 100%, the Rangers expect him to be a difference maker for the club. The Rangers have been very sure that they only want Webb to make one comeback this season. As you all know, Brandon won a Cy Young in 2006 with the Diamondbacks, and has not been the same pitcher since. I look for more good news to come in the coming weeks.
First Spring Training Game
Washington put his first lineup card together today for the very first spring training day, and there really were no surprises on it. With the injury to Adrian Beltre, Mike got the start at 3rd, and everyone else is where you would expect them to be. In case you do not want to look it up, here is the batting order that Ron put out there today: Kinsler (2B), Andrus (SS), Hamilton (LF), Cruz (RF), Young (3B), Murphy (DH), Moreland (1B), Torrealba (C) and Borbon (CF). I believe that (as we have already discussed here on the report) that Ian is going to be the leadoff man for the 2011 season, and Young will bat in the 5 or 6 hole. Mike will be able to do a whole lot of damage from that spot, and I sure hope he finishes his career with the Rangers! There will of course be a whole lot of player shifting going on during the game, so we will have a post game article later in the day.
Adrian Beltre
Beltre says that he is right on track for his 10 day to two week recovery time, despite some reports that he may not be able to go on opening day. “Who reported that?” Beltre asked. “Not that I know of. Ten days to two weeks.” He has been taking batting practice and throwing every day, and says that he is feeling pretty good. Beltre admitted to being disappointed that it happened but states that he would rather it have happened now instead of happening during the season. We will keep you updated on anything else when we hear it.
Spring Training Schedule:
Mon, Feb. 28 – 1:05 pm Kansas City Royals
Wed, Mar. 2 – 1:05pm LA Angels
Thu, Mar. 3 – 1:05pm Cleveland Indians
Sun, Mar. 6 – 1:05pm Milwaukee Brewers
The Rangers will look to get some young guys some work and warm up the old guys. Baseball is going on everyone, get ready to enjoy it!
