What to do with Shin-Soo Choo?

Nomar Mazara has established himself as the Texas Rangers right fielder, I think there is no doubt about that. He is having himself quite a season so far, with a batting line of .309/.355/.491, nine home runs and twenty four RBI in 43 games so far. I think it is safe to say that he will be the right fielder going forward.

With Ian Desmond playing center and Ryan Rua in left, the smart move seems to be to move Shin-Soo Choo to left field, but is he better in the field than Rua? I don’t think that he is, and he is most assuredly not better in the field than Nomar is.

The Shin-Soo Choo injury came at a bad time for him, with Nomar coming on the way he is. Choo is getting older and his best years are not ahead of him, whereas Ryan Rua’s are. I think that Choo will replace Rua, but I am not sure that the Rangers don’t try to send Choo elsewhere in some sort of trade deal. The only problem is that they would have to eat most of his salary, because teams are not going to be willing to take it on for the aging star.

The Rangers have Josh Hamilton, Drew Stubbs and Shin-Soo Choo on the DL right now, and we know that Hamilton will not be returning anytime soon, so that leaves the Rangers with a decision to make when Choo does come off the disabled list; start him in left or make him a very high paid fourth outfielder. I believe that the Rangers will start him over Ryan. The Rangers are going to have another problem if and when Delino DeShields gets it figured out again in Round Rock. They will have four viable starting outfielders.

I would not be surprised to see the Rangers try to move Choo at some point, if they can get a good return for him while he still has value. The only problem would be his salary, they would most likely have to eat most of it. Should be interesting to say the least!
