When he retired as a Texas Ranger, I was wondering how long it would take for the organization to make Michael Young a Texas Rangers hall of fame inductee. I no longer have to wonder. The Texas Rangers announced this week that they will induct Michael Young this summer into the Hall. As someone who has been following this team most of my life and writing about them for the past 10 years, Michael Young was a huge part of both my fandom and my writing, and I have always considered him one of my favorite Rangers of all time.

youngThe captain of the team during his time with the Rangers, Michael Young always played with class and style, and his clutch hitting was always something that impressed me, especially his opposite field approach. I always thought that if Josh Hamilton or Prince Fielder could learn to take the ball the other way, they would raise their batting average significantly. Young was a great leader, a great teammate, and is a great person who is still involved with the Rangers organization.

I plan on attending the game where Michael will be inducted into the hall, because he was and remains one of my all time favorite Rangers. I think the team made a great decision on this years hall of famer, and I am proud that Michael spent most of his career as a Texas Ranger. Players come and go, but leaders are hard to come by. Michael Young was a leader, and he will go down as one of the greatest Rangers of all time.
