Adrian Beltre and Yu Darvish

darvishInjuries are part of the game of baseball, and the Texas Rangers suffered their fair share a couple of seasons ago when they used the most pitchers in major league history and finished with less than 70 wins. In 2016, they have been fortunate so far that the injuries, though they have had some, have not been at the catastrophic level. They missed catastrophic a few days ago, and again I am thankful.

Yu Darvish left his last start early due to some shoulder tightness, and it made all of us say “uh oh, here we go again!”. The news that came back on Darvish is that he is okay and is expected to make his next start. Losing Darvish after just getting him back would be a huge blow to this team, and I’m glad that it seems minor, although it is still a little worrisome. Let’s hope it is nothing and he can continue right along this season. A one two punch of Cole Hamels and Darvish would be nice to see for a whole season.

Adrian Beltre left the same game holding on to his left hamstring, which is almost never a good sign. It helps that Adrian is the toughest guy in baseball and he has played through leg injuries before, and according to reports, it is just a mild strain and not something worse. Adrian will travel with the team on this road trip and is listed day to day. Beltre even asked Banny if he could get into the game Thursday as a pinch hitter, to which he was told no.

Robinson Chirinos has been taken off the DL, and Luke Jackson was sent back down to Round Rock. The question now is what to do with the fact that there are 3 catchers on the team right now, and the two who were replacing Chirinos, Bobby Wilson and Bryan Holaday, are both playing very well. I would hate to see either of them go, it will be interesting to see what the Rangers decide to do.
