Derek Holland, Bullpen Can’t Stop M’s

Derek Holland has been pitching well of late, that is, intil last night. Derek gave up 3 home runs and did not make it to the 6th inning for the first time in a while. And it’s not like Safeco field is known for the long ball either.

I’m upset, I hate losing,” Holland said. “I made a mistake to Dae-Ho Lee and the guy did what he is supposed to do. It just wasn’t my night. If I make pitches, who knows what happens.”

Mitch Moreland had himself a good night with two home runs himself, it just wasn’t enough to overcome the seven runs the Rangers pitching gave up.

Derek Holland is a strange case to me. All the talent and stuff in the world, but he just can’t seem to put together long streaks of pitching well. Right when it looks like he finally is breaking through, he has another setback like last night. He has even had some extended streaks of looking sharp, but I just don’t trust that he is not going to throw a bad game everytime out.

The disappointing thing from last night is that the Rangers offense scored 5 runs, which should be enough to win a ballgame. Anytime your atarter gives up five in less than 5 innings, the game is going to be hard to win. The Rangers have to brush themselves off and play another game against the Mariners today, and I think they should bounce back nicely. I hope Mitch’s bat is back to stay and I hope Jurickson Profar can hold down third while we wait for news on Beltre.
