Some New Faces – Spring Training 2020

The Texas Rangers have some new faces for the 2020 season. They still have some old faces as well. Elvis Andrus, Danny Santana, the return of Robinson Chirinos. The new faces are the ones I will look at today.

When we look at the Rangers 2020 pitching staff, we see some serious potential. Two time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber, Mike Minor, Lance Lynn, Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles. The combined 2019 ERA for this rotation was 3.88. A very good ERA. This staff has the potential, on paper, to be the best rotation in the American League West. Kluber, Gibson and Lyles are all new additions.

On the offensive side of the field the Rangers added (again) Robinson Chirinos. Great move in my opinion. He will really help out after the catching struggles the Rangers had in 2019. They also added veteran Todd Frazier for third base. He should be an improvement to what the Rangers had in 2019.

The first full squad workout happens today. All of the names mentioned above are going to be starters for the Texas squad, but what I love about spring training is watching all of the minor league guys work and try to earn a spot. It is always interesting to see who surprises everyone and makes the team coming out of the spring. There is a long list of guys trying to do that, usually one or two actually make it.

This Rangers team is set up, on paper, to be a lot better than the 2019 club. I am really looking forward to the season and seeing who steps it up and is ready for a trip to the show in April.
