Detroit City

I know that @ActheStud is really looking forward to the next 3 days, since he is getting to go to all three of the games in Detroit. The rest of us will have to listen to them on the radio while at work. The Rangers have historically done bad in day games, and they have also done bad historically in Detroit over the past 5 seasons or so. But, the Rangers took 2 out of 3 in 2010 and this is not your momma’s Ranger team. this team can hit, and this team can pitch. I just hope they can do those things well for 3 day games.

Justin Verlander (1-0, 3.86 ERA) v Alexi Ogando (1-0, 0.00 ERA) – Alexi was really good in his first ever major league start, giving up no runs to the Mariners. But that was at home, and this is not. I look for Ogando to not be quite as sharp, but still hold Detroit to 3 runs or less in 6 plus innings. Verlander, on the other hand, is a grizzled veteran who is still a great pitcher, and the Rangers have been challenged to hit off of him in the past. This should be a low scoring game.

Brad Penny (0-1, 11.17 ERA) vs. C.J. Wilson (1-0, 2.84 ERA) Penny has not gotten off to a good start, and that could be a good thing for the Rangers. He has walked a lot, and the Rangers so far have been patient at the plate. He has also given up the long ball, and we all know how the Rangers are about the long ball. C.J., on the other hand, has pitched well enough for 2 wins but he did not get the first one. Look for C.J. to continue rolling over the Tigers.

Max Scherzer (2-0, ERA 5.73) vs. Dave Bush (N/A) Scherzer is 2-0 on the season, but his ERA is a little high to be facing off against a Ranger team that is averaging more than 5 runs a game. The only issue in this game is how Dave Bush pitches. Bush has not pitched at all in well over a week, so it will be interesting to see if he can keep the good time pitching rolling on Wednesday or if is a high scoring affair. I believe it will probably be a high scoring affair, but we will have to wait to Wednesday to see. I say the Rangers leave Detroit with a 2-1 trip, and that they most likely lose the first or 3rd game of the series.

  1. I actually think that the pitching matchups are in the Rangers favor….even today. I think today’s is the most difficult but Verlander is a pitcher if you are patient and take some pitches and work the count you can get his pitch count up. I think getting to Verlander and the middle innings pitching is important to avoid late innings deficit against Benoit and Pappa Grande!

Otherwise I think the pitching matchups are in the Rangers favor and with the pen not being overworked in Baltimore I think we are good. I am more worried about Wednesday’s game but that is the day the Rangers need to show up and hit!!!!

    Monday—Win

    Tuesday—Win

    Wednesday—Lose

Probably should switch Monday and Wednesday but I have faith in the offense and being patient!!!

  2. Impressions from MoTown by ACtheStud:

Ogando looked awesome live….enough said…hate that blister got the best of him today.

Wind was blowing from Right to Left in the outfield so about 4-8 balls hit by Rangers batters died much shorter than normal if the wind wasn’t blowing.

    Verlander looked good also….scary!

Inning the Rangers scored the wind died pretty much their half inning

Michael Young’s double was hit very hard….

Hope Magglio is playing Rightfield the whole series b/c he is in the same category as Lance Berkman….OF that have no range, no arm, no business being out there!!!!

This Rangers lineup starts slow but get good looks at the pitchers and then explode….

What a game even though it only turned out 2-0.

How about that play Elvis made in the 5th doubling off Caberara…..was the catch or throw the best part of it. And the play he made deep in the hole against a speedy Wil Rhymes in the 9th. This guy is really good.

Awesome day from the MoTown!!!! Love this team…..
