Predictions Sure to be Wrong: The Outfield

The outfield is the last in our series of predictions. We focus on the whole roster from here on out. All the other positions have been done already by us. I’m already wrong on some of them and I will be wrong again. That is part of the fun of spring training, as this was discussed on our latest podcast. Who will be the outfielders for this team?

The Outfield Lock

Joey Gallo is going to be the right field starter barring any major injury. He more than proved he is ready to be in the outfield, and his bat has been pretty hot to start the spring. The only other reason he wouldn’t start ? If he was traded before the season starts. I don’t see that happening personally. Joey will be here and he will play well in 2021. No doubt in my mind.

The Outfield Almost Lock

David Dahl is the left fielder. He along with Willie Calhoun will hold down that spot for the season, with a little Khris Davis in there if he makes the team. Calhoun and Dahl are sharing this season, with both being the designated hitters as well. Both healthy and ready to go, this should be a done deal as well but it still could change in the next three plus weeks.

The Supposed Lock

Leody Tavares is the supposed lock for center field, although i’m not totally convinced of that yet. Delino DeShields is also vying for that spot. Fans really like DeShields, and Tavares is still not great at the plate. Could Taveras start at Round Rock to work on his hitting? Absolutely. The odds of it happening are small, but not out of the question. The Rangers really like him and want him to be the everyday starter, although rushing him would be a disaster in my opinion. I am not saying DeShields is going to make the team, but it is not out of the realm of possibility.

I’m wrong more than I’m right. That’s the fun of writing these articles! Next we will give weekly predictions on the opening day roster until we actually have one!
