Pitching and the Return of the Outfield

If you could take one thing from this weekends games against the Phillies, it is that the Rangers pitching staff is also very dominate. The Rangers had C.J. Wilson, Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison go, and the three of them gave up a combined 5 runs in 3 games. That is enough to win all three games in most circumstances, unless you are facing Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt, who only gave up a combined 4 runs.  I was very encouraged this weekend watching our starters go out and dominate the Phillies lineup, and I think that they are going to continue to be that way for most of the season. And remember, CJ has not even looked his best yet. Colby is back, and Matt Harrison seems to have recovered from what ever bump he hit a few weeks ago. Oh, and don’t forget Derek Holland and Alexi Ogando, who have been great all season. Now, every pitcher is going to have a bad game (Alexi vs. Yankees), but overall I am confident in this pitching staff. I am not as confident in the bull pen, but Neftali did get a save on Sunday so hopefully he is back from whatever was wrong with him.

But, the big news for Ranger fans is the fact that Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz will be back in the lineup. Josh will be DH tonight, and may be for a while, and Nelson will be back in the outfield. Michael Young has been taking outfield practice, in case you were wondering. He is willing to do anything to get his at bats, and I respect him so much for being such a team player. He sees the potential in this years team, just like I do. I think that with a few additions come July, this team is ready to make another run at the World Series. They are struggling right now, but this offense will hit its stride soon, especially with Nelly and Hambone back in the mix. The Rangers have the Whitesox and the Royals coming up this week, and I look forward to seeing what their big sticks can do now that they are back in the fold. Go Rangers!
